Now this is some spooky science. The idea of “filming” within VR is curious, though, especially where there’s a large number of people now interacting so much online. I wonder if others will continue down that path or chalk it up to a one-time oddity?
I've not yet seen the movie, but I think that the settings are pretty well controlled and created by the people in the movie. I've not (yet) tried out VR Chat. I might, if I'm daring enough and can grab time and a headset. Joe Hunting mentioned in the Here & Now interview that his avatar was identifiable by headset and camera, and people in the documentary knew that they were being filmed. The short interview is worth a listen (timing details in the links at the end of the post, BTW). I think it's 11 minutes long.
Spooky science ... now I think I'd count Zoom in that, too! With a "fake" background especially.
"I mean, there's no guy named "Coke". The Keebler Elves aren't real. And Willard Scott aside, there has never been a real Ronald McDonald. Those are artificial entities created to sell product. Just like pop stars."
They're NOT REAL!!!??? My world is shaken: "Ziggy Stardust didn't exist. There's no Sergeant Pepper and no Lonely Hearts Club Band. Mick Jagger wasn't a street-fighting man, he was a business student at the London School of Economics. The Beach Boys weren't surfers, they were from the suburbs." Sid, you broke me with these truths....

Also, big bonus points for the Alice Copper reference!

I was and continue to be an Alice Cooper fan. I saw him perform Billion-Dollar Babies in person.
You know, he's and English major! With him, I feel a bit like Garth and Wayne -- "We're not worthy! We're not worthy!"
My rock star alter ego Sid Luscious wrote this piece about virtual stars and pitch people back in 2011:
